2010
I have taken a very loose interpretation of the challenge today! I am gradually (very gradually, its taking me ages!) tidying, sorting and simplifying my craft room. In amongst my stash I came across some cross stitch – some finished and some not – and I don’t know what to do with it!
Of the three pieces I have shown today, only one is finished – the Daisy Fairy. I think I had it in mind to make into a picture for my daughter, but as she is now 17 years old its not something she would really want in her room! And I don’t think I really want cross-stitch pictures anyway. So what to do?!
It took so long to do that it seems a shame not to do something with it. A cushion maybe? Make into something to give as a gift? Any ideas folks?!
The other two cross stitches are unfinished. Do you have any unfinished projects like this, or is it just me? lol. The ‘Abigail’ one I started when Abi was a baby – she is now nearly 18! I am sure the ‘Advice’ one was started before I even had children. Oh the shame. I do get annoyed with myself for not finishing something I started!
So, if I twist this challenge around a little, can I challenge you to come up with any ideas of what I could do with the cross stitches! Any ideas very welcome…….

What's Hot

Oh dear – that’s quite a challenge! I have a couple of long-stitch tapestries hiding in the backs of drawers and I try to forget they are there tbh!
I guess cushions is the obvious idea if you want to actually finish them – but if you’re not going to do that then maybe you could offer them on your blog as “free to a good home” so that someone else can have the joy of completing the projects
I have to admit to having had quite a few unfinished projects over the years, I think I just got bored with them which is a shame.
Can’t really offer any more advice on what to do with yours other than what Kathy has already mentioned.
Good luck.
Yep, plenty of UFOs here too (unfinished objects!). I’m afraid I struggle enough with ideas for my own Caroline so I’m sure I’m no help at all with yours!
You could sew the fairy onto an apron pocket, that would look really cute. Could you use the abigail one as part of a scrapbook page with a photo when she was small? Or perhaps you could use it to decorate a make-up bag or tissue pouch?
They’re really sweet so don’t let them lie forgotten in a cupboard forever! x
Some good suggestions – like the apron idea. I had a lot of cross stitch stuff and had to give it up because I couldn’t sit at it without my back hurting more, so I actually put loads of stuff on a well known auction site – I even sold an unfinished big picture at a good price – I’ve often wondered whether the buyer actually finished it x
lovely little images Caroline. I like the fact they are unfinished. Artists have portfolios of sketches and unfinished work so why not crafters? Now i’ld love a box of things to give my children or great grandchildren when i’m not around…something they can flick through and see a little of what i do / did xx
Oh these are beautiful hun, I would deffo frame them… I used to do X stitch before this inky malarkey took hold… can you imagine the colour of the Aida if I took it up again… mmm, smudgey grey finger prints LOL
