Free standing Paper Babooshka Doll
by Chris
Â
Make a pretty free standing paper Babooshka doll to liven up your workspace or to give as a gift.
You will need :-
Fiskars Shapecutter Plus
Fiskars cutting mat
Fiskars Tags1Â template
Fiskars scissors or Fiskars craft knife
Fiskars embossing tool
1Â sheet of white card
1 sheet of patterned paper
Black pen
Double sided adhesive tape
Glue
Optional embellishments
Using the Shapeboss and tags template, cut out your shapes.
Â
You will need to cut out 2 Double-round tags from card, 2 Double round tags from the patterned paper, 1 large circle for the face and 1 medium circle for the hair.Â
Colour the smaller circle black with your black pen and then cut it in half.
Glue the two white shapes together and then adhere one patterned shape to the front and one patterned shape to the back of the assembled piece.
Put your remaining shapes to one side.
Â
To make your stand for the Babooshka doll you will need to cut 2 gift tag shapes from the white card and one patterned gift tag shape from the patterned paper.
Glue the two white gift tag shapes together and then adhere the patterned paper onto one side of the assembled tag.
Â
Using the edge of your template as a straight edge, score a line approx 1cm from the top rounded edge of the tag shape with your embellishing tool… you will need to press firmly or do this twice to make an indentation in the card.
Â
Flip the tag over and apply a strip of DS adhesive tape to the top edge of the tag.
Â
Remove the protective layer from the tape and adhere the tag to the back of the doll shape as shown below.
Â
To assemble the head glue both of the cut halves of the smaller circle to the large circle shape as shown, overlapping them slightly.
Â
Turn over your shape and remove the excess card with your craft knife or scissors.
Â
All that you need to do now is draw on your face and stick the head into place before adding any extra embellishments that you wish. This is a project that I’m sure your kids would love to share with you. Let them create their own… kids draw the most fab faces
They could create a Daddy doll for Fathers day and add a ribbon tie as I have or draw on arms and a waistcoat… there is lots of scope for their imagination to run riot. They could even skip the face assembly and use a cut out photograph of Daddy to make the doll more personal. They could also use the shapes to add to a card rather than have it free standing… so two gifts for the price of one

For the grown ups and those of you who are into altered art… well what can I say… I just know you can turn these Babooshka dolls into amazing pieces of art.  Use stamped faces or vintage faces instead of the hand drawn ones and jazz them up to your hearts content with stamps and vintage looking papers. If you do… don’t forget to share those with us too
I hope I have given you some inspiration.
 Happy Creating
