For my final DT piece I wanted to make a canvas to fill a space in my guest room wall. To make sure that I was going to love the finished result, I decided to base it on a layout that I already liked, and chose one with a great photo taken by Fiskarette IceAngel, on a girly weekend away last year.

I had a blank 12” x 12” canvas, so the first step was to create the background. In my original layout I used patterned paper, but for the canvas I wanted to create a patterned background myself. I used the Fiskars Shape Cutter and Doodles template to cut out some large scroll shapes, and lay them in position on the canvas.

I then sprayed an ink mister over the entire surface to give a light colour.

I removed the scrolls and put a new mask over the top and resprayed it. This gave the pattern different layers and depths of colour.

On my original layout there was a vivid flower pattern down the right hand side of the page. I decided to recreate this with some dimensional flowers. I made these by cutting some scalloped circles with the Fiskars Scallop circle squeeze punch and using a flower stamp on each one. I stamped some random leafy branches down the right hand side and mounted the flowers on top. I then stuck some jewels into a few flowers.

To create a stamped border for the photo, I decided where it should go and marked the position with a pencil. I then used an assortment of stamps to create a border on 2 sides, including a journaling block for the place and date. I attached the photo, and added a punched border down the right hand side – created using some white card and a Fiskars Elegance border/corner punch. To tie in with the quotation I was going to use, I frayed a piece of ribbon at both ends then pleated and stitched it down before sticking to the canvas.

To finish the design, I added a title above the photo using letter stickers and stamped journaling strips, using card that I had sprayed the same colour as the canvas background..

I’ve really enjoyed creating pieces for you as part of the design team.  I hope you found a little bit of inspiration in there somewhere and are enjoying your creating wherever you are!
