pinnochio3

If you ever think your mojo is missing then let your kids inspire you by sharing your tools and crafty bits and letting them play.  Last weekend my grandson was looking for something to do and decided it would be fun to draw shapes with my Fiskars templates.   He loves to write his name as most kids do,  so the alpha templates were a huge success allowing him to spell his name and then colour it in with coloured pencils, but afterwards  he went on to draw heads with the circle templates and wanted to do some faces and because he couldn’t do it the way he wanted to he got cross.  Then he had an electric light moment and discovered that if he used the bits on the sides  (meant for putting your templates into folders)  he could draw eyes and a nose.   Pinocchio was born again and I learnt a new trick …lol

After seeing the face… well I had to have a go too :)  This is my second childhood coming into play.  So we ended up sharing the templates and I showed him how to use the templates to draw a body for his Pinocchio.  He had a great time colouring it in and cutting it out but wanted it to move!!  So as you are older you have to have all the answers to why it won’t… and then have to discover a way to make it move :)  So we started again re-drawing the shapes but doing the moving pieces separately.  We cut them out once he had coloured them in with his coloured pencils and joined them to each other and the body with mini brads.  Voila…. success and one happy boy :)

When he went home…. well I just had to have a play on my own, but this time cutting out the shapes with the shape cutter plus with patterned papers because I had to know if I could assemble a movable paper Pinocchio without having to resort to using scissors.  Success :)  the only difference is that my Pinocchio is a little smaller as using the templates this way the inner of the circle shape is cut,  whereas if you draw the circle shape with the template you cut round the pencil lines and cut around the outside of the circle.

The moral of the story is …. you are never to old to learn something new and a child will teach you every time….lol

Happy Creating

Chris xx

p.s. if you would like instructions on how to make your own Pinocchio… let me know :)
