Fiskarette Spotlight – Yvette
by Clare
Here is a Fiskarette Spotlight, where a Fiskarette is asked some questions so we can know more about them and see the kind of crafting they create.
Its a great way to find out more about the community we are a part of and the people within that.
Yvette happens to be our Competition Winner, and as well as creating that beautiful bag, she has made other wonderful designs….read more about her…

Can you tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Yvette, I am 49, which is so hard to believe! as the years have just flown. I have been happily married for nearly 25 years. I have two grown up children, my daughter will be 29 soon and getting married in September. My son is 23 and still at home. We have a springer spaniel called Murray, he is just over a year old now.
I have been crafting forever. From a very young age I always made stuff. I was always inspired by my grandmother, she got me into knitting, crochet and embroidery. I had my first sewing machine for my 15th birthday, and loved making dolls clothes for my younger sister. A little later on I did cross stitch and needlepoint. I have always been into finding out about my family history, and that was how I got into scrapbooking. From there I didn’t want to waste my scraps so I made cards. I also have taught myself how to do patchwork and quilting, and have in the past done watercolour painting. I love stamping and am getting more into that at the moment.
~~~~~~~
What inspires you in your creations?
All sorts of things inspire me. I love colour and fabrics, patterns and designs. I am always looking at nature, and how colours and shapes work. I have even had inspiration from billboards, a tv ad and a takeaway curry menu!
~~~~~~~

What are your favourite craft techniques?
I really enjoy making making things like wreaths and using chipboard to get 3D effects. I love scrapbooking and cardmaking but like to make “other” things with paper.
~~~~~~~
What is on your craft desk at the moment?
Craft space at the moment is in a usual state of chaos. No matter how tidy I try to be I still end up looking for stuff under piles of paper and glue. At the moment there are just remnants of all the wedding stuff I have just finished making for my daughter, which I AM going to tidy up before I start on anything else.
~~~~~~~

Tell us about your typical day…
I am usually busy most mornings but try to do some crafting in the afternoon. I don’t get the chance every day, but once I get into a project I just can’t wait to get back to it and finish it.
~~~~~~~
Any crafty hints or tips?
Crafty tip – try and tidy up as you go along, try and source all materials before you start a project, not so much tips as resolution! Don’t get to despondent if something doesn’t turn out right, it can usually be sorted out! I am the queen of ” I had to stick that there to cover up the mistake I made!!”
~~~~~~~

What makes you smile?
What makes me smile…I love my family dearly, they all make me smile.. Also my daughter lives in Brussels now and she is a very talented crafter. We are so lucky to have skype as we can show each other what we have been making, that makes me happy, what else, blue skies, flowers, the sea, wind in the trees….
~~~~~~~
What annoys you?
Rude, ignorant people with no manners. I taught my children to be polite, manners cost nothing but they mean such a lot.
~~~~~~~

What is your favourite song, movie, book?
I couldn’t really give a favourite song as I just love music, and listen to such a huge variety. Big fan of Lord of the rings, Harry Potter and the books too. I mostly like comedy films as a good laugh does you the world of good!

best wishes Yvette
