Fiskars Texture Plate
by Chris
Add texture to you projects using the Fiskars’ texture plates, you can use them with card, paper, vellum and metal foils for a variety of different stunning effects. Fiskars’ texture plates are available in packs of 2 or packs of 6 and each texture plate is double sided providing two different designs.
To use your texture plate you can either simply use it on a flat surface or in conjunction with one of the Fiskars’ embossing trays to stabilize. I have used the Fiskars Mini Shape Boss and secured the texture plate with the provided pegs.
Place your chosen material onto the texture plate with the reverse side uppermost. This is the side you will work on so that when you turn your material over the raised embossed design will be on the front. I have used light card for this project and it is helpful to attach tape to your material to ensure it doesn’t move on the plate.
You may wish to use the Fiskars’ texturing tool to emboss your shapes quickly and cover a large area but you can also use a stylus, ball point pen, bone folder or pencil to add definition to the shapes.
Rubbing your embossing tool lightly over a wax candle, will help it to glide over your work with ease.
The embossing effects can be quite stunning on their own but if you would like to decorate your piece of card or paper further you can add chalks or inks etc for effect.

When working with lightweight materials it may be a good idea to texture by rubbing with your fingers over the surface, but experimenting on scrap materials will ensure you use the best method for the best effects. You can add textures to die cuts and shapes but it is best to add the texture to your material, texturing a larger area than your shape requires before cutting them out.
Happy creating

Texture plates are great. They can be used for decorating diagonal corners on cards to make them look more expensive. They are great for texturising small shapes and letters that you cut out. And if you already have a die cutting machine they can be used in them as well.
