This week the Fiskarette Spotlight is on Rainbow Poppy – Debbie……..
Debbie was the winner of our Mega December Competition!
*Can you tell us a bit about yourself…..*

I have been married for 24 years and I have a daughter who is almost 21 and a son who is 17. I work in a local Infants School as a HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) and I know I am extremely lucky to be able to say I absolutely love my job. I started scrapbooking when I made an album for my daughter’s 18th. Since then I have been going to a local crop in Downend where I have met lots of lovely people and learnt loads of new techniques. Last year my friend Faye Bertham and I decided to start organizing 24 hour crops for charity. So far after two crops we have raised just over £2,000 for St Peter’s Hospice and Cancer Research.
* *
*What are your favourite craft techniques? Do you have a project showing this that you would like to share with us?*

I love inking edges and I generally stick to the same colours (so I am on my second dark brown cats eye chalk) I love sewing on layouts or adding sewn embellishments to layouts, I love using buttons, acrylic stamps and acetate. I could not live without my die cuts, I love the way titles and embellishments can be cut and decorated to match your project perfectly. I also like using 3d foam pads to add extra dimension to layouts and projects.

Although not a craft technique I love finding things to alter, they generally get turned into mini books, in the past I have used plastic id tags, coasters and children’s puzzles.

* *
*Do you have a favourite time of the day dedicated to crafting?*
The weekend is my favourite time, and I try to do something in the evenings if I have enough time.
* *
*What is on your craft desk at the moment?*
A kit I am working on for our next charity crop. It’s going to be a book about the funny things children have said in school, and it’s made out of plastic sunglasses cases.
* *
*Any hints or tips you would pass on to anyone else?*
What you perceive as a mistake on a layout is a design opportunity!
Chocolate covered fingers and white cardstock do not go well together.
If you stamp on acetate and you want to colour the image, use sharpies on the reverse of the acetate.
* *
*Do you have a favourite Fiskars product or one you would like to try?*
**
*Other than craft stash, do you collect anything or have any other hobbies?*
I have dabbled in many other crafts but now stick to scrapbooking. I don’t really collect anything (if you don’t count dies lol).
* *
*What makes you smile?*
The things children say (I write the funniest ones down). One child couldn’t say my name (Mrs Roberts) so I was Mrs Yoghurts for three years!
Seeing sunshine outside instead of rain.
My children.
Our cat pole dancing (he has a scratch post but generally when in the right mood swings around upside down and really looks like your cat version of a pole dancer.)
* *
*What annoys you?* People being rude.
* *
*Favourite song right now?* Invincible by Muse
* *
*Favourite book/movie of all time?*
Book, The Stand by Stephen King if I was pushed but I could list at least 5 I read over and over again.
* *
*If you could be invisible where you go and what would you do?*
I would go and stand in Tescos to scare the living daylights out of all the rude people in there. Imagine a voice from nowhere telling some cantankerous person in a calm voice they were actually being very nasty and they had better be quiet immediately! That might be a full time job though so I think I might go into a Gordon Ramsey restaurant and watch him cook for a day.
* *
*Do you have an burning desire to fulfil any ambition before you reach your next birthday milestone, eg. 30, 40, 50 60?*
I would like to see Muse live, and DH and I have talked about going to Glastonbury before arthritis sets in.
* *
*If you could take three things with you on a desert island, what would they be?*
My house (with all my stash and family in) or is that cheating?
Ok then it would have to be a pack of spices to cook lovely things while I am there. My ipod with a solar panel charger so I can listen to music. and a comfy bed.
* *
*Just for fun:*
*Stamps – wooden or acrylic? - acrylic
*Spots or stripes? – spots
*Read book or watch a film? – read a book
*Chocolate – which bar? Mars
*Tea or Coffee? – Tea

Great to know more about you Debbie.
The charity crops Debbie and Faye organise are great fun to go to, I’ve even managed to finish a project or 2 at them:)
(Me a chatterbox? Neveer)
The top 10 mini-book was a kit at the first one and the instructions were so easy to folow.

Congratulations Debbie, a well deserved winner. I love seeing all your little craft projects at the Downend crop, you have amazing imagination, one day it might rub off on me.
I always admire your work Debbie! Your answers also made me giggle! We had lots of fun raising the money for Cancer Research and St. Peter’s Hospice. Lots of money raised and hours of scrapping! Faye x
