8″x 8″ Party layout
by Chris
We all have favourite party photos whether they are of our own children, or others in our families so today I am sharing with you an 8×8 layout that you can use to display them. You can follow the instructions provided but choose your own colour scheme to suit your photograph if you wish.
You will need :-
Min size 5″x7″ photograph
Three 8″x8″ plain cardstock
Two 8″x8″ patterned cardstock/paper
Fiskars cutting mat
Fiskars Shapecutter plus
Fiskars super sized circle templates sizes 2, 3 and 4
Fiskars Shape templates - Celebration, Flowers 1 and Uppercase Letters 1
Sanding block or emery board (optional)
Adhesive
3d Adhesive pads
Fine tipped pen or pencil

First of all using the Fiskars Shapecutter plus with your templates and cutting mat cut out all of your shapes. You will require the following shapes :-
Photograph cut using the inner edge of the no 3 Super SizedCircle template.
1 of each circle size cut on the the inner and outer edge of the template to create a frame.
Cake and candle pieces cut from the Celebration Template
1 of each Leaf shapes cut from the Flowers1 Template
‘Party’ letters cut from the Letters1 Template
If you wish as I did, Â to give a slightly distressed look to the page (though this is a matter of taste and not entirely necessary) use your sanding block or emery board and lightly sand the edges of each piece you have cut and also some of the paper surface. Do not apply too much pressure or you will tear the paper, it is better to re-sand parts a couple of times until you get the effect you require.

Once you have finished sanding adhere your photograph and largest size circle frame centrally onto an 8″x8″ base card.

Apply 3d Adhesive pads to the back of the other two circle frames and layer them on top of the first circle frame as shown here .

Assemble your Cake pieces as shown above applying 3d Adhesive pads on the reverse side to the candle only. The candle area will be adhered to your photograph and the bottom portion of the cake after applying adhesive will rest on top of your now 3d frames.

Add your assembled cake embellishment as shown above. Next take your two leaf shapes and assemble them as shown below to make up your bird shape. Add a beak by cutting two small pointy triangles and overlapping them before gluing to the underside of the head.

Add 3d adhesive pads to the back portion of the birds body and wing on the part that will not overlap your cake and before you remove the backing tape from the pads use the bird shape as a guide to where to draw the legs and feet.  Once you have drawn the legs and feet onto your base card draw an eye on your bird and then add it to the layout.

Finally add your lettering to the left hand side of your layout. The letters ‘P’ and ‘Y’ should be mounted on 3d adhesive pads and the other letters should just be glued flat to the frame as shown.
If you have any questions about the layout don’t hesitate to ask… I hope that the instructions are clear for you but if you are unsure about anything just yell
You don’t have to make your layout 3d, you can just layer the pieces as they are and create a flat page, again this is just a matter of preference. You could also add further embellishments if you wish and add some journalling too. Your journalling could be written round the frame if you don’t want to include extra tags or journalling pieces. Experiment with different papers, maybe add doodling or stamping to your plain paper pieces, use chipboard lettering or stickers in place of the template lettering if you prefer that effect too.  Â
If you create a Birthday layout I would love you to share it with us and give us some more inspiration so do come back and show us
 Happy Creating
