Altered bottle
by Chris
Jazz up your bathroom/bedroom by giving your toiletry bottles a new lease of life or by recycling old bottles and filling with bath salts, lotions and bubble baths. Altered bottles can pretty up any space and you can also use them to give as gifts. Alter two or three and fill with buttons, brads and other small items as a gift for a crafty friend or decorate and fill with sweets for a child’s birthday before placing in a gift bagÂ
For this project you will need
Fiskars cutting mat
Fiskars craft knife
Fiskars circle punch
Fiskars Sunburst border punch
Chalks and applicator (optional)
DCM memory wire
2 fabric butterflies (or embellishment of your choice)
A piece of patterned paper
A length of ribbon
DS adhesive tape
Clear drying glue
Metal ruler
Measuring tape

First of all measure the circumference and height of your bottle. Add approx 1/2 an inch to each measurement.  For example… for a bottle which is 3″ round and 4″ high you would need a piece of paper 3.5″ x 4.5″.  Â
Cut out the size you require using your craft knife, cutting mat and a metal ruler.Â
Using the Fiskars sunburst border punch… punch along the top and bottom or your paper and then apply chalk to the edges if required.
Apply DS tape to the wrong side of one of the remaining straight edges and wrap your paper around the bottle, overlapping the edge to secure with the tape.

Take a length of DCM wire and fold in half, twist the wire by placing left over right from the looped end. Then coil the wire and apply to the bottle with clear drying glue. Add your fabric butterfly with glue.

Wrap a piece of ribbon around the neck of the bottle and tie in a bow.

Finally punch a circle of paper to fit the top of your bottle and glue another fabric butterfly to the edge of the lid.
This is just a design to inspire you to create your own altered bottles  but the options are endless. Using different papers and embellishments to suit your colour scheme or occasion you can create all sorts of gorgeous displays or gifts. Try covering your bottles with fabrics that you have stamped or embroidered following the basic guide to covering them, add tags to the neck of the bottle with wire or thread for a completely different look and let your imagination guide you
Happy Creating

Only last week I emptied a few mini bubble bath gift bottles and thought Mmmm what can I do with them and came up with something similar… decided they would be great as storage for buttons…each bottle housing it’s own colour they are soo easy to see what is in the bottle and store away I even empties shampoo bottles removed the clear stckers and did the same putting buttons in.
Of course you could fill these little bottles with buttons and do as chris has done co-ordinating and decorating them with ribbons and a tag …and giving them to a crafty friend as a present.
Love your idea too chris.would make nice gifts.
