This week’s project has the word bling in it twice. Partly because Jayne challenged me to use the word bling in the title of every DT post I do and also because I wanted to bling up some of my craft (bling) storage.

I bought 12 of these strong foolscap box files about two years ago. They are ideal for craft storage as they are the perfect size, protect papers from sunlight and even have lids that don’t get lost. I use them for punches, glitter, rubber stamps etc. They are however dull and don’t have a handle to pull them out of the stack (as you see from this before photo).

I had been unable to add handles because I had no way of putting a hole through the strong particle board sides.

However… inspiration has struck….

The Fiskars Craft Drill is ideal. It is a neat little hand drill that comes with four different size drill bits. The twist chuck means that you can buy replacement or different size bits from any DIY store.

Initially I intended to just drill two holes in the front to insert a simple cord handle.

However as that only took two minutes I decided that I could further embellish it.

I made holes in the centre of some plastic flowers with the Fiskars Small Eyelet Setter and the Fiskars Small Craft Mat. I then threaded a small bead onto a length of wire and threaded the wire through the flowers and then the newly drilled holes on the end of the box. I secured the ends of the wire on the inside with some strong tape.

Well I was really on a roll now – the second box has a more rigid handle. I used Fiskars Silver Wire threaded with three different colours of pearl beads (cheap Primark necklaces taken apart = cheap beads). On the inside I threaded another bead on and wound the wire tightly around.

I then drilled loads of small holes and used thinner wire to thread the individual beads, passing the wire through the hole from the back, then through the bead and then back through the same hole.

The drill will also go through wood, plastic and thin metal so I am now prowling the house looking for things to drill.

Apparently the drill will also go through 50 sheets of paper! So if anyone can think why I would want to drill through 50 sheets of paper please let me know!
