Crochet Daisy Necklace DT project
by Fizzydrink
I’ve had a reel of fine gold wire in my stash for months and finally got around to experimenting with wire crochet for my Design Team project this week. Firstly I made some daisy medallions for the necklace using the punched and stamped shrink plastic technique that I’ve used before. I used a Fiskars scallop Circle punch to punch out a number of shapes from White shrink plastic, and punched a hole in each side of each circle with the Fiskars eyelet setting tool and mat.

I used a daisy stamp from the Fiskars Clear mini stamps set – Floral, on a Fiskars acrylic block, to stamp a daisy on both sides of each circle, in Black Stazon Ink. I also selected some black glass beads for the necklace.

To start, I threaded all my beads onto the reel of crochet wire, in a pattern of 2 or 3 black beads then a daisy, repeated until all the daisies and beads were on the thread. Once all the beads were on the reel I began to crochet the wire in chain stitch, keeping the stitches loose and reasonably relaxed. After every couple of stitches I pulled a bead along the wire and into the crochet, and then made the next stitch behind it – I continued in this way, until gradually all the beads had been incorporated into the chain of crochet, and the necklace was long enough to sit comfortably around the neck. I have to admit that I got lucky on the amount of beads and you may want to add more beads than you think the necklace will need onto the reel, so that you can make the necklace into the length you want. You can also experiment with how many chain stitches you leave between beads, as this also affects the length of the finished piece.

I wove the ends of the wire back through some of the beads and chain, and finished off by adding a jump ring to one end and a lobster clasp at the other end.

Debbie
No Jayne, it’s quick – and easy if you already know how to crochet! Debbie, any fine wire can be used – it just needs to be a really fine guage.
I’ve been meaning to try this technique for ages, then I saw Beadmad doing some at a recent crop and it reminded me! Have fun playing! Thanks for the comments, Ruth
Beautiful, I’ve knitted with wire but not tried crochet.
The crochet finish looks much finer.
I love your shrink plastic beads.
Thanks Ruth.
I just re read your instructions, I was wondering how you got all the beads on! So simple when you read the instructions carefully and think about it logically!
