Hello everybody!! Isn’t it chilly at the moment?! Whatever happened to our nice summer weather?! I think that might be it for us this year…Autumn is just around the corner :(

Anyway…on to today’s project. I will, as usual, give step-by-step instructions of what I did to create my project, but first I want to start off by talking about something to do with scrapbooking (and indeed other crafty projects) that has come to my attention recently, and definitely came into play when I was working on this, and that’s MAKING THE BEST OF WHAT YOU’VE GOT.

I think this a particularly relevant topic right now, considering the fact that everyone seems to be tightening their financial belts, as well as the fact that people seem to have less and less time to spare, with work, family life and other duties and responsiblities taking up most of every day.

So, there may be times when you are scrapbooking when saving time and money are somewhat of a priority for you. As a student training to be a teacher, these are certainly priorities for me.
There may also be times when you just don’t have the exact things you want or need for a layout or project, and the only thing you can do is to make do with what you’ve got.

But that’s half the fun of it, I promise you.

Take, for example, the title of my layout. I really wanted to use the Cosmo Cricket woodgrain letters for the word ‘holiday’ but when I got the packet out, I saw that I didn’t have some of the letters I needed. I found a packet of Thickers that were in the same font so that I could make the title with those instead. But again, I didn’t have all the letters I needed. So I put the two sets of letters together and found that I had all the letters needed between the two sets. Similarly, I didn’t have an ‘A’ in the Making Memories wooden letters. So I made do with what I did have and turned a ‘V’ upside down to make an ‘A’!

The image on this page is another example. It’s actually from a catalogue, which I cut out and used on my page in place of a photo of my own. I forgot to take my camera away with me, so I came back with NO photos of my holiday! But I still wanted to document it, so what did I do? That’s right…I made do with what I had…in this case, a catalogue image.

And here’s how I made the layout…

1. I cut three strips of patterned paper using my Fiskars trimmer, punched them with the Effervescence border punch and adhered them to a piece of Kraft cardstock at wonky angles.
2. I cut another, larger piece of patterned paper and adhered it towards the middle of the cardstock, followed by the photo.
3. I then cut a photo corner using my trusty Fiskars scissors and trimmed along one side with some decorative scissors to give a scalloped edge.
4. Next, I created the title, by using stamps, letter stickers and chipboard letters. I placed a self-adhesive flower embellishment next to the title.
5. I printed my journalling on to a tag, and adhered it to the page with another tag behind it.

6. I made my own embellishment by firstly punching out a scalloped square using the Scalloped Square Squeeze Punch, and sticking a chipboard button on top. I then stamped the beach umbrella on to Kraft cardstock using the Stamp Block Set and the Clear Travel Stamps, cut around the shape and then adhered it to the top of the chipboard button.

7. I finished off the page by adhering my embellishment to a little tag, sticking those down, and adhering a wood veneer scalloped circle.

I’ll see you next time for my final project as a DT member (*sniff sniff*).

Gorgeous Steph. Love the bright colours and the idea to scrapbook a momento rather than a photo….x

Love your page Steph. Can I ask what the white ink you used for stamping is?

Love the way you stuck the borders at a wonky angle instead of straight, it looks great. The mixed up title looks great too, I often ‘make do’ with the alphas I have too! xx

Thanks for all the tips with the alphabets, it is annoying when you dont have the right letters.

    Lovely layout
