Todays challenge……
“Create a project depicting anything which is eco friendly or recyle something to use within your project….”
I thought I would use a plastic bottle as the base of my project. It’s a bit of a cheat I’m crafting the label. The bottle can be recycled easily in this country and many ‘Sort it’ Centres have a plastic recycling banks but using it again has to be a good thing doesn’t it ? The ruler I used is made from Recycled plastic too Check other fiskars School equipment also made with Recycled plastics HERE :)
Anyway, I have trouble with my Daughter Keiras drinks bottles at school as she can’t get the top off, or it leaks etc.. The ones that seem to be ok are the Mineral water bottles. The only problem is it has to have her name on and Marker Pen just comes off after washing once ! I have made a sleeve that is fastened with stick on Velcro so I can take it off and wash the bottle. It gets tatty after a week or so but is fast to whip up other lables (I’ve actually made 3 in one go) I also used old school dress buttons to add decoration & I used scraps of paper too. You could actually do this using sticky backed Vinyl perhaps !
Items needed: Bottle, Ruler, Pencil, Trimmer, Border Punch, Adhesive, Stick on Velcro, patterned paper, buttons, XL Heart Squeeze Punch, Cardstock, Alpha dies.
Instructions: First wash the bottle if it has a peel off label take that off and remove any glue.
Next Measure the width & length of the label using the Ruler & cut out patterned paper..I added just under a inch at each end so there was enough to overlap and add the Velcro to the edges.
Next I took another piece of patterned paper & Punched using the Fiskars Sunburst border punch. This is then trimmed into a strip repeating the punching & trimming again & making two strips identical.

Punch out 3 Hearts using the Squeeze punches, I made sure the paper wasn’t to bright and colourful so the name would stand out. Glue the hearts onto the middle and the punched strips to the top and bottom of your base piece of patterned paper see below…

Glue on the Alpha Die cut letters and stick the Velcro onto the edges (A pencil might come in handy to mark where the Velcro matches up) Add the buttons if you want, though if you are giving to a child under 5 I would leave out the buttons.

A simple but useful project.

I wouldnt be surprised if some of the parents commissioned you to make lables for their children’s bottles. What a fab idea.

I was just going to say similar to Debbie I reckon a lot of parents will be being asked for these at end of school today – bet you’ve started something there Jayne! Brilliant idea – my girls use bottles like that too! I know my middle dd would love one of these!
Fab idea Jayne!
Brillliant idea Jayne.
Can you make me one please.
What a fabby idea! Being a teacher, we always have a nightmare with unnamed bottles. This is a lively idea that children will love. Might have to make some of these in school! X
Just thought we could make some of these and laminate the lables, then they would last even longer.
Fabulous idea Jayne
