PRODUCT OF THE WEEK (& class)

by Jayne & Caroline

****Firstly don’t forget it is the last day today to post your competition entries up by 12:00 tonight .

Today I’m playing with my fave tool the SQUEEZE PUNCH (297416).

 297416.jpg

They claim……. With this unique design you can see exactly where you cut, for perfect punches and no more wasted paper. The squeeze motion requires 7 times less force than other punches on the market, even through heavy cardstock. No need to stand up and punch, one simple squeeze is all it takes! The force reduction differs upon each design, the more detailed design, the more force is required. They punch 210g paper weight.

The innovative Squeeze Punches are available in three sizes M, L and XL and in a wide range of patterns.

My thoughts…

I didnt think i liked punches very much until i used these , I love the fact they are so easy to use and the sizes are great too. These punches are so easy to use even my 3yr old loves punching ! Its a pity they dont punch thicker cardstock and sometimes the ornate patterns get a little stuck but a bit of patience slipping the paper out afterwards and all will be fine.

I have also found out recently these punches stack really well and have a pic on side so you can see at the bottom of the stack what one it is.

                     ………………………………………………………………………………………

I have created a simple L/o it shows my daughter with a plunger on her head !! don’t worry its a new one not been used :D

You will need :

6×4″ photo.

Patterned paper 1 -12″ x 12″ piece, 2 pieces - approx6″ x 12″  and some scrap pieces.

1 piece 12 x 12″ cardstock

OVAL SQUEEZE PUNCH

also used a flower squeeze punch

Ribbon punch - I used fiskars border punch.

Alphabet of your choice.I actually hand cut my letters for the title and used Adorn it stickers for the journalling (You could hand write these onto strips of cardstock too).

Numbers- I used foam thickers that i had for scrap.

1 border edging (i used Heidi grace flocked edgeborder)

Ink,

Scissors , paper trimmer , ruler , Glue

a button

Directions:

1. Stick your 12″ patterned piece of paper onto the plain cardstock , this will make it more sturdy.

2. Cut one of your larger patterned pieces 1cm wider & longer than your photo this is the mat. Then cut another of the 6″ x 12″ paper pieces 6″ x 8″ Punch this piece up the left hand facing side with your ribbon border punch. Back this with scraps of coloured paper strips as if it was a meter reading !! Stick photo on mat ,matted photo on punched piece & stick onto left hand facing side of the 12″ x 12″ patterned paper/card piece.

3. To make a flower punch 6 petals out of an oval punch . fold in half then unfold and ink edges.stick down 3 ,then stick the other 3 in between to make a flower. I’ve added a punched flower to the centre & then a button.

4.I then punched lots of ovals and cut them in half longways to make the L/Os scalloped border. These are stuck all round the edges spacing them a little in the middle as they dont quite fit. I just glued a thin line at the sraight side of the ovals and stuck this way.

5. Title was cut by freehand (but you could use diecuts or punches or stickers etc.) and then I inked my letter edges to make it stand out a little more. Tiny Adorn it stickers were used for journalling but again journal on 1cm stips of cardstock and cut seperate words out ,inking edges too . Then I slotted the flocked edge under the petals randomly slanting it to add interest & fill space.Think that is it , Hope you enjoyed this piece.

What a fun photo! - and the idea of cutting the ovals in half for the border is very clever.
