Today i’m showing you an Advent calendar i’ve made for my mums garden centres first Anniversary,I’m doing a make & take… I wanted something that everyone big and small could make & then take home and hopefully make more or just add extra bling ! Sorry about the photos the light was terrible this morning & if i used the flash it bounced off the wood !

Items needed: Patterned paper/cardstock, Scrap piece of card for a template, Ribbon, DS tape, Fiskars Oval Template, Eyelet setter/punch & mat, Shape cutter, Shapecutter Mat, scissors & pen…glitter glue optional, Small flower Pop up punch,Brad.

Instructions:

1.Cut 2 Ovals using the ShapeCutter & Oval Template(I’ve used the 2nd largest Oval )(You can fit 12 Ovals on 1 piece of 12″ x 12″ Paper) Now cut more ovals i’ve made a 12 day Advent so needed 24 Ovals in total (2 Ovals for each pocket)

2. Fold all the ovals in half as shown below.

3. To make the pocket bring TWO folded ovals together (As shown below) and glue the front flap of one Oval onto the front of the other, Turn over & glue the back oval flaps …so it the shape has a point towards the bottom creating a heart shaped pocket and a middle that opens to put sweets inside.

4. You can add a strip of border punched paper at this stage to the top of your pocket for interest.I have left mine plain seeing I have 12 to make.

5. Cut a length of cardstock 14cms x 2cms approx and fold in half.(I actually made half the strips a little shorter so the heights were staggered but thats optional) Now its time to punch the holes, I punched through the pockets & the strips of card where the mark is on pic below. It is easier to gauge where to punch if you hold it as shown & punch through ALL the layers at once.

6. Ive added a small punched flower and made little tags by cutting a strip of card into small rectangles, Punch a small hole again at the top of each rectangle, snip off the top corners and ink the tag.  Add a number to the Tag.

7. Make up the pocket putting the pocket handle inside the heart shaped pocket. The tag and flower on the outside fasten with Brads.Make up the quantitiy you’ll need to make more pockets thread onto Ribbon, cotton or sting.. Add Sweets & you are done !

8. Take a long piece of cotton, ribbon or simular and thread all the pockets onto the string you could tie with Bows if you want to keep in a certain place. Fill with sweets, treats or perhaps a coin in each !

Hope you like xx

Brilliant instructions and they look so easy to make. Wonder if any other shapes would work?

Ovals were the prettiest Wendy… like little hearts. You can but two pockets inside of each other using a contrast colour to make them lined (the tops poke out & this looks quite effective) x

This is a lovely idea Jayne. I love how it hangs over the fire place. I am trying to persuade other half to let me put the dacs up this weekend!
