DT projects – Steph
by Steph Baxter
My best friend recently got engaged, and I was lucky enough to be able to do the engagement shoot for her and her fiancé as an engagement present to them. I managed to get a shot that I love where the ring is in focus, and the two of them are out of focus in the background, and when I saw it I knew I wanted to do a layout all about the ring. And this is what I came up with.

Using a Fiskars paper trimmer, I cut a piece of Bazzill Kraft cardstock to 8.5×11 inches for my background piece, two pieces of Sassafrass paper – one to go along the top edge, and one to go along the right edge. I made two decorative-edged strips by cutting the edge off another piece of Sassafrass paper, and also by punching a piece of American Crafts Vanilla cardstock that I had previously sprayed with various colours of Maya Road Mist with the Effervescence Border Punch. I adhered these pieces to the Kraft cardstock.

I cut a photo mat from one of the pieces of Sassafras paper, and adhered my photo to it, then stuck the whole thing down on the cardstock.

The next thing I had to do was to print my journalling, which was probably the trickiest part of the page. I knew I wanted to have my journalling printed on pieces of Kraft cardstock punched out using the Extra Large Scallop Square Squeeze Punch, so I used the punch to give me a square that I could hold up against my computer screen to use as a guide. In Microsoft Word, I typed out my journalling, making sure that my journalling would fit by placing the square I punched out on the computer screen over each block of journalling. (For this to be accurate, you must make sure that you are zoomed in to 100% in Microsoft Word, or whichever word processing program you are using.) I then printed it out on normal printer paper. Next, I adhered a small piece of kraft cardstock over where the journalling lay on the paper, and sent it through the printer again, meaning my journalling was now printed on the cardstock. I then took the Squeeze Punch and punched out each journalling block. The last thing to do for the journalling was to adhere each square to the page using some foam squares to give them dimension so that they look like they pop off the page.
I finished the page by adding some Basic Grey dimensional stickers, and using Thickers to create the title.
I very rarely do 8.5×11 layouts, but I think for smaller photos like the one I used (2×3 inches) the smaller page format works really well.
I hope you enjoyed my project today! Have a fabulous week

Lovely.
Thanks for the journalling tips and it now means I won’t be using a whole piece of cardstock for my journalling.
love the colours and the Simple clean design.
I’m not personally into anything other than 12″ x 12″ but it could easily be adapted x Thankyou for sharing.
Beautiful layout!
Gorgeous layout Steph, and fab photos.
Love the style and size of the whole page…x
Great idea for journaling spots, I like the way they blend into the page but stand out too. I want that punch now! x
