I’ve seen Ingredients for cookies in jars but thought i’ld make Hot choc for gifts for a change. I’m going to give one each to my daughters teachers & one to the lollypop man and probably one to the dinner lady as she has made Keira my daughter feel so comfortable at lunch times.

Ingredients for Hot chocolate:

 6 cups dry Milk Powder

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar (you can substitute some of this for sweetner, or b. sugar)

1 cup plus 2 tablespoons Cocoa

1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows (optional)

Instructions: Combine dry milk, sugar, cocoa in a large bowl. Pour into a large jar or other tall container and top with Marshmallows. seal the lid and decorate as desired.
Store at room temp not in direct sunlight up to 3 months.

Recipe to print onto jars: Measure 4 tablespoons of mix into 1 mug. Stir in 1 cup hot water or add part milk. makes 12 servings.

Things needed for decorating Jar: One large jar with tight fitting lid, Patterned paper, Gingham Ribbon, Fiskars corner border punch,Shape cutter and Circle template plus mat, Scissors, Glitter glue, Christmas ornament, stich on Pearls or gems, Adhesives.XL Squeeze Heart punch, buttons, Snowflake embellishment, Alpha stickers,Journalling pen.

p1090587-500-x-375.jpg

Instructions: First take a plain jar and measure the height you want the label to be cut. Cut a strip with a paper trimmer the height of your jar side (please note it will be a little shorter when you’ve scalloped your edges)

With your Shapecutter (or you can use scissors or Scalloped lace border punch) Scallop the long edges of the strip of patterned paper. Glue this onto the jar making sure the ends are well glued down.

Cut another patterned paper strip approx 4cms less than your first strip in width and with thecorner border punch, punch both of the longest edges You have to flip up the corner part (See photo below) and not use this to just punch long rows. Glue this in the middle of the first strip.

Cut a circle with the Shapecutter that matches the jar lid size this could be trimmed to fit ! It is advisable to use the mat HERE as this makes the Shapecutter work easier. Glue the circle onto the lid. Punch a XL Heart from matching paper and ink edges. Glue this onto the circle and glue buttons around the top.p1090590-500-x-375.jpg

Add a christmas decoration (i decorated a wooden heart I bought for 50p with pearls and a snowflake sticker) I also took the thread off the decoration and added a Piece of gingham ribbon that was cut to make it fray !

The final steps were to add wording with stickers and The instructions above so people know what it is and what to do ! I wrote on plain card and stuck the instructions over the join mark of the paper.

Note: this jar can’t  be washed but would be ideal to dust out and use as an embellishment jar. If you didnt want to make choc mix you could add a lot of little satchets and a small bag of mini marshmallows or maybe a chocolate cake mix with different ingredients or something else !

Please share with us if you make this or a simular project  x

This is a lovely idea Jayne. I am in the process of making the cookie jars for 5 people I work with. Just been making the tags this evening. I am making butterscotch chip cookies. I love the hot choc jars though. I have a couple of people who would love this! Thanks for the inspiration.

Here’s the recipe, below. The gift is just the maltesers and the white and dark chocolate in a suitable jar or bag, with a copy of the recipe.

    Malteser Traybake

    2 tblsp golden syrup
    340g/12oz dark cooking chocolate
    570g/20oz digestives
    340g/12oz maltesers

340g/12oz white cooking chocolate for topping
small amount of dark cooking chocolate to drizzle on top

    Finely crush the digestives
Melt the butter, syrup and chocolate then fold in the biscuits and maltesers.
Spread the mixture in a greased baking tray (12.5”x9”/32cmx22cm) and put in fridge to cool
Melt the white chocolate and spread it on top of the mixture. Drizzle the dark chocolate on top.
Put back in fridge to set then cut into squares
